Cookie Policy

This Cookie Policy explains how Farlands ("we", "us", or "our") uses cookies and similar browser technologies when you visit our website or use the mission console and mission pages. It should be read together with our Privacy Policy. Last updated: October 4, 2026.

What cookies and similar technologies are

Cookies are small text files stored on your device by your browser. We also use similar technologies such as localStorage and session storage for certain product features.

Some technologies are strictly necessary to operate Farlands. Others, such as analytics, are optional and load only if you accept them in our cookie banner.

How we use these technologies

Farlands groups technologies into the categories below.

  • Strictly necessary: authentication session persistence, security, load balancing, and keeping you signed in while you use the console or a mission page.
  • Functional: saving your cookie consent choice, if you join a private mission page, storing a room code in localStorage so you can return without re-entering it, and storing draft note content (title, emoji, and body) in IndexedDB on your device so unsaved Notes edits can be recovered before they sync to the server.
  • Analytics (optional): if you accept optional cookies, we may initialize Firebase Analytics to understand aggregate product usage and improve reliability.

Strictly necessary cookies and storage

These technologies are required for core functionality. Because Farlands cannot work without sign-in and session handling, they are not optional.

  • Firebase Authentication session state, which may use browser storage such as IndexedDB or localStorage to keep you signed in.
  • Short-lived authentication and security tokens used by our APIs.
  • Your cookie consent preference stored in localStorage under the key farlands_cookie_consent.
  • Room code values stored in localStorage when you access a private mission page, so your browser can rejoin automatically.
  • Draft note content stored in IndexedDB when you use Notes in the mission console. This stays on your device until it syncs to the server or you clear site data.

Third-party cookies

Some necessary features rely on third-party providers that may set their own cookies during sign-in or infrastructure requests.

  • Google sign-in may set cookies during the OAuth flow when you choose Continue with Google.
  • Google Firebase and Google Cloud may set cookies or use storage as part of hosting, authentication, and security for the service.
  • We do not use third-party advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

Optional analytics

If you click Accept in our cookie banner, we may enable Firebase Analytics in supported browsers. Analytics helps us understand feature usage and diagnose issues. It is not required to use Farlands.

If you choose Essential only, we do not initialize optional analytics for your browser.

Your choices

When you first visit Farlands, a banner lets you accept all cookies or continue with essential cookies only.

You can change your choice at any time by clearing site data for Farlands in your browser settings and reloading the page to see the banner again.

Most browsers also let you block or delete cookies generally. Blocking strictly necessary cookies may prevent sign-in or mission page access from working correctly.

How long they last

Session-related technologies last for the duration of your session or according to Firebase Authentication defaults until you sign out.

Your cookie consent choice remains until you clear it from localStorage or change it through a future in-product control.

Saved room codes remain until you clear localStorage or remove access from the mission page.

Analytics cookies, when enabled, follow Google Firebase Analytics retention settings.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Cookie Policy when we add features or change providers. Continued use after the updated date means you accept the revised policy, subject to any choices you make in the cookie banner.
